Content at ESAS 08 will be themed around the following:

  • Working with the customer
  • Improving S&E management – capturing in-service experience
  • Decision making and judgement calls
  • Sustainable Procurement – the next step
  • Learning from International and non-defence S&E practices
  • Presenting a Paper

We have had an excellent response to our call for papers and the quality of abstracts has been first class. It has been tough deciding which papers to use and so we have done two things to make it easier: we've stuck to our themes, rejecting good work that does not quite fit and we've opened up a secondary lecture room to allow for some simultaneous lectures. The second lecture room is far smaller than the Main Lecture Theatre and, as well as offering some choice for the delegates, it enables more interactive sessions; this has been our prime consideration when choosing the presentations for this room.

Conference content

The conference will comprise:

  • Papers presented in the main hall, grouped in sessions, with opportunities for questions and answers hosted by the session chair after all papers presented.
  • Papers presented in seminar rooms, with opportunities for questions and answers with each speaker during the presentation.
  • Workshops in seminar rooms, in which issues are identified by the workshop facilitator and interactive discussions provide an opportunity to explore topics in detail.
  • Surgeries in seminar room, in which a subject matter expert will be on hand to address individual or group questions about a specific theme or issue.
