ASEG (Acquisition Safety and Environment Group) who are sponsoring this event, is a Functional Group under Director Safety and Environmental Protection ( D S&E P) within the DE&S Director General Safety and Engineering (DG S&E).
The ASEG role is to provide the safety and environmental infrastructure through the development and maintenance of a safety and environmental management system; representing the Defence Equipment and Support views and requirements within MOD and to external bodies, to support the DE&S Management Boards and Integrated Project Teams the discharge of their responsibilities.
Its role includes:
- Advice and guidance to DE&S Management Boards, managers and business areas on the management of safety and environmental issues and responsibilities in respect of the procurement and support of equipment projects;
- Representation of the views of DE&S to other MOD organisations' customers, HMG Departments and Industry; to determine requirements, effect implementation and influence developing legislation, HMG policy and MOD policy;
- Provision of instructions and guidance that give processes for safety and environmental management and provision of tools, training programmes and management systems needed to ensure consistent and reliable safety and environmental management and performance;
- Provision of performance and assurance mechanisms and reports. To provide assurance to Chief of Defence Materiel and DE&S Management Boards, Project Managers and IPTs, that their performance requirements for safety and environmental management are being met.
- ASEG also provides support to the wider MOD through sponsorship of Def Stan 00-56 and works with UK and International bodies in developing industry-wide standards.
